Biography 

The work of Dadisi Curtis Jr, examines social constructs through the first hand experience of its faults. Born March 11th 1994 and raised in Canton Ohio, he experienced  numerous traumatic events which inspired him to share his unique perspectives. Raised in a single parent house hold by a mother who encouraged self expression a love for the arts grew. The middle child of seven siblings his house hold was sports oriented, which created a sense of isolation. He graduated from McKinley Senior high school in 2012 and went on to attend Kent State University where he graduated in the spring of 2018 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in print media and photography with a minor in psychology. 

 

His work is often inspired by the seven deadly sins and seven heavenly virtues, interests which are a by product of his interest in psychology and Christian beliefs. Born to an interracial couple Curtis identifies as an African-American which has shaped his cultural lens. As a member of the Pan-African community, he strives to challenge systems of oppression including: the prison industrial complex, classism, Eurocentric beauty standards and other systemic racial structures. By combining these issues with the seven deadly sins a complex narrative is created. Focusing primarily on gluttony as it relates to drug dependency, sexual lust, pride and greed his work frames these issues in relation to urban culture. A key component to his work is his experience with drug culture and those affected; by analyzing its use in urban culture to negate myths frequently depicted generating a deeper understanding. With three siblings majoring in psychology and a father whose own business relates to the psychological practice he seeks to analyze the human psyche and its relation to the black populace.
